Performance analysis

Performance analysis

What is this?

Combining different sources of financial and non-financial information to give new insights, beyond simply whether targets have been met or not.

The result?

Better insight into current and projected performance informs better decisions in the future.

Recent track record:

  • I helped a fintech business in the trade finance sector  realise efficiencies of 35% on their cloud infrastructure costs.  I worked closely with Engineering to extract and analyse Azure cost data in new ways, and built new automated cost and usage reports in PowerBI to make this analysis repeatable and scalable.  I followed up with key people in Sales and Operations who could influence the costs, to help embed a continuous cost control culture.

  • At a  fibre infrastructure  business, I regularly updated my operational financial model with the full range of KPI actuals.  As they were all summarised in one place, it was much easier to elicit key insights.  A critical aspect of forecasting is the ability to see the actual to forecast trends in a consistent way, for the operational cost and revenue drivers as well as the financial data.

  • In my first month at a fintech business  I designed a new monthly KPI report from scratch, and handed it over to the Finance team.  It stood the test of time and was still an essential management report two years later.  At a SaaS  business on a short-term assignment, I worked up a new monthly KPIs pack, which was at mock-up stage when I started.  I gathered and analysed data from around the business to create a first draft of the pack, containing a wide range of customer, revenue, people and cost information.
